Compositions

Below are some of Geoff's compositions, including recordings.

You can find one of my ceòl mòr compositions "Sitting against a Tree by a River Contemplating Life" in The Shasta Collection of Modern Piobaireachd.

Please contact me with any enquiries regarding these tunes or if you'd like to commission a composition.

The Danger Tree

The Danger Tree was a symbol of where life stopped for many.
The point of no return.

The beginning of the end.
This tune honours the soldiers who passed The Danger Tree only once, never to return.

The Grumpy Piper

Composed by Geoff on 19 May 2018 (World Whisky Day) for newly established 'The Grumpy Piper' whisky tasting bar and bagpipe museum in Launceston, Tasmania.

Miss Julie Baker of Merimbula

Composed by Geoff in 2017 and entered in the Shasta Piping Society 2017 original piobaireachd composition contest.

A friend met through a mutual love of piping, Julie was a beautiful young lady with a passion for life. In 2011 at the age of 23, Julie was diagnosed with cancer in her brain, lung and liver. Sadly, Julie passed away in December 2016.

Julie's love of life and the pipes inspired Geoff to compose a tune in her memory. Geoff's original tune for Julie was a light waltz which finished with a lament in the style of ceòl mòr. It was this lament that became the ceol mor piece, 'Miss Julie Baker of Merimbula' - fond memories.

The score to the right, is written in the new MacCrimmon canntaireachd of Simon Fraser.
